A Tale of Two Dinosaurs
Birthday greetings for Tara and this prehistoric fish

Happy Birthday to me and this crusty coelacanth, which was found off the coast of East London on 22 December 1938. Originally thought to have gone extinct 65 million years ago, the discovery of this prehistoric fish was akin to finding a live dinosaur.

(Although it was later discovered that they had been fished and eaten off the southeast coast of Africa for centuries, but let's not spoil the moment.)

From what I recall, coelacanths also have nice legs, no brains and are sometimes referred to as the "ballerinas of the sea."

Hopefully I can channel graceful dancer more than old dinosaur in the upcoming year. It’s time to party on.
